Joe Arpaio Made Things Difficult for the Border Town

When Joe Arpaio was working as the sheriff in a border town, he was doing everything he could to keep people from coming to the United States. He didn’t want undocumented immigrants, which is reasonable, but he didn’t want legal immigrants either. He was corrupt and fighting them about the things he wanted to get from them. He was even arresting people illegally on the basis that he was doing the right thing for the people who were a part of the city he was working in. Since Joe Arpaio knew he as doing things illegally, he knew he had to keep doing them or he would get caught.

Even when Joe Arpaio eventually got caught doing the illegal things, he still continued to push and tried to make things harder on people. Those who were a part of the city saw what he was doing, but others had no idea. They didn’t realize he was corrupt which made them subject to even more issues. They also knew he would do what he could to try and make things harder on them even though they were not doing anything wrong in their own lives.

When Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin saw what Joe Arpaio was doing, they knew they had to stop it. They were activists, and they always stood up for people who couldn’t stand up for themselves, so this was a reasonable thing for them to do. They had to make a change so they would be able to show people they were doing something to make a difference. They also knew things would only get better if someone spoke out against Joe Arpaio so they decided they were the ones who would have to do it. They made the choice to publish information about him on their website.

While it ultimately turned out to be the right choice, the men had to go through a period of tribulation. They were arrested. Joe Arpaio tried to charge them with false crimes, but everything they had done was legal. They knew what they were doing so they were prepared for the backlash that he was going to send them. They made the choice to fight against the crimes he was trying to charge them with. When they fought, the ended up settling for over three million dollars. They used the money to start an organization to help people who were personally victimized by Joe Arpaio.
